Following the success of the four IAHR webinars on 'The Business of Global Water Security', 'The Science of Global Water Security’, ‘The Fundamental Issues of Global Water Security' and 'The Challenges of Global Water Security', followed by our fifth webinar, held jointly with the World Water Council, and entitled 'Global Water Security post Covid-19', we are pleased to report that these five webinars have already attracted a global viewing audience of over 40,000. It is now timely for IAHR to focus more on 'The Challenges of Global Water Security: Using Hydroinformatics to Obtain Solutions'. Due to climate change, population growth and increasing urbanisation, many of the world’s river and coastal basins are becoming more water stressed, particularly in terms of increasing floods and droughts, depleting groundwater resources, increasing health risks from water pollution, increased opportunities for insects to bread through the water system and spread life-threatening diseases etc. In tackling these challenges, new monitoring tools and modelling techniques continuously being developed and used to make river, coastal and groundwater systems more resilient to the rapid changes as outlined above.
